DIY Facemasks for All Skin Problems.

When it comes to skin problems like acne, pimples, scars, dryness, oily skin, etc., people usually resort to skin products that have more drawbacks than benefits. Moreover, these products and treatments are far too costly for everyone to afford them.

Therefore, we present some Do-It-Yourself face masks that take care of most skin problems:

1. Banana Mask for soft and moisturized skin:

Two ways of using a banana for a softer and moisturized skin are:

Mash up one medium sized banana and apply on the face and neck. Let it stay for 10-20 minutes and then wash off with cold water.

Mix 1/4th cup yogurt with 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 mashed banana. Apply the same on the skin, keep for 20 minutes and wash off.



2. Vinegar mask for toned skin:

Vinegar has skin toning properties and has been used for a long time. To make this, mix 1/4th cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4th cup water. Apply on the skin and let it dry. You will have achieved much tighter and toned skin.


3. Milk mask for clear and healthy skin:

Milk is the most commonly used ingredient for a better skin. It is always effective and easy to procure. To make a mask, mix a 1/4th cup of the powdered mask with enough water to create a paste. Apply a generous coat on the skin and keep it till it dries off. Wash off with lukewarm water. This will give way to the healthy and clear skin.


4. Oatmeal mask for fresh and clean skin:

Mix ½ cup of hot water with a 1/3rd cup of oatmeal. Once the mixture has settled for a couple of minutes, add 2 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons yogurt and 1 egg white. Mix well and apply a coat on the face and keep on for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.

This face mask will result in the fresh and clean skin.


5. Mayonnaise mask for a smooth skin:

Applying a mixture of mayonnaise and eggs over the skin gives a smooth appearance to the skin. It also cools the skin.


6. Yoghurt mask for a bright and toned skin:

 Mix juice from a 1/4th slice of an orange, some of the orange pulp, 1 tablespoon yogurt and 1 tablespoon aloe vera. Apply the mixture on face and keep for 5 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. This mask gives way to a brighter and toned skin.


7. The Lemon mask as a quick exfoliator:

Lemon is known for its exfoliation properties along with giving the skin a good moisturizing effect. To get good results, mix a 1/4th cup of olive oil or sweet almond oil with juice squeezed out of 1 lemon. Apply the mask on the face and keep till it dries off. Wash off with warm water.

8. Egg mask to moisturize the skin:

For skin that is too dry, use the yolk of an egg, mix it with one tablespoon honey or lemon juice and apply on the face. For skin that is oily, use the egg white instead of the yolk. For skin that is between the two extremes, use the entire egg and mix well with either honey or lemon juice. Apply on the face and keep for 30 minutes. Wash off with water to give way to the moisturized skin.


9. Avocado and honey mask for dry and scaling skin:

Mash half of a ripe avocado till its texture becomes creamy. To this, add two tablespoons of honey and half tablespoon of coconut oil. Mix well and apply on the face. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash the mask off with warm water.

This mask is good for dry and scaling skin. The avocado and coconut oil is good for moisturizing skin while honey works well with raw or chapped areas on the skin.


10. Papaya mask to remove dry and dead skin cells:

Blend half a papaya after peeling and slicing it. Mix the paste with half a tablespoon honey and 1/4th tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture on the face and let sit for 15 minutes. Wash off the face with warm water.

This mask creates a glow on the face by removing the dry and old skin cells. This happens due to the enzymes present in the fruit. Papaya is also known to have many antioxidants which result in healthy skin.




11. Coffee mask for a smooth, hydrated and clear skin:

Cocoa present in coffee is a good antioxidant which promotes anti-aging of the skin, giving it a visible glow. The caffeine, on the other hand, reduces swelling and puffiness of the skin. When combined with yogurt, the mask is good to hydrate the skin to a good level.

Mix two tablespoons of freshly grounded coffee along with two tablespoons of pure cocoa powder, one tablespoon of honey and three tablespoons of yogurt or cream. Blend all the ingredients together and apply the resultant paste on the skin and keep for 10 minutes. Wash it off and post washing, gently massage the skin to exfoliate it well. The result will be a smooth and clear skin.


12. Strawberry and Lemon mask to remove acne and pimples:

 This mask is very useful for people with oily skin. Salicylic acid present in strawberries works well with acne and removes it. The lemon juice clears out dead skin cells and tightens pores which result in a toned skin. Yoghurt and honey, which is added in the mask, have good antibiotic properties which reduce pimples and cool the skin.

To use this mask, add 1/4th cup of strawberries properly mashed in two tablespoons of lemon juice. To this, add one tablespoon yogurt and honey. Mix well by hands only instead of using a blender. Spread evenly on the face and let sit for 10 minutes. Afterwards, wipe with a warm cloth, followed by rinsing with cold water.


13. Mask to reduce Rosacea:

Many people face Rosacea during winters. Rosacea is characterized by blotched red skin, which usually occurs during the winters. This mask utilizes apple cider vinegar which maintains the pH of the skin, and the oatmeal reduces the irritation of the skin, which is a characterization of Rosacea. The entire mask has a soothing and moisturizing effect on the skin.

To make this mask, add 1.5 tablespoons of oatmeal with two tablespoons of yogurt and one tablespoon of honey and apple cider vinegar. Mix well and then add three tablespoons of strong green tea. Continue stirring the mixture and add tea as needed until a thick paste is achieved. Apply the paste on the skin and keep it as such for 15 minutes. Later, clean it with a damp cloth. Wash off the face with lukewarm water, making sure not to use soap.


14. Cucumber mask to heal burnt and rash skin:

Cucumber and yogurt have a soothing and cool effect on the skin which is deemed good for burnt or rash skin. This mask reduces the redness caused due to burns and moisturizes dried skin.

The mask can be made by chopping half a cucumber and creating a pulp of it by grinding. To this, add yogurt and mix well with hands. Apply the mixture on the face and leave still for 15 minutes. Rinse the face with lukewarm water.

15. Matcha mask to reduce dullness of the skin:

This mask provides a morning glow on the face and reduces dullness of the skin. It also freshens the skin.

To make this mask, add one spoon of matcha to one spoon of chlorella in a bowl. To this, either add water or aloe vera, as suitable to create a paste. Apply this paste to the face and keep it still for 20 minutes. Later, wash off with water to get healthy, glowing skin.


16. Honey and tea mask to fight face acne:

 Honey is known to have good anti-bacterial properties that fight off acne on the skin. Nutritional yeast also removes acne and is rich in Vitamin B which also balances the pH of the skin. The mask is good for treating sudden breakouts on the skin and is also nourishing.

To make this mask, make one cup of chamomile tea with two tea bags. Once made, let it cool. In a bowl, add one tablespoon of raw honey and one tablespoon of nutritional yeast. To this, add enough tea to create a thick paste. Apply the paste on the face and let it sit for at least 20 minutes. After it dries off, wash with cool water and pat dry.


17. Banana and orange mask for a glowing skin:

 This mask is suitable for all skin types and provides a good organic glow to the face.

To make this mask, mash half of a banana and add one tablespoon orange juice and one tablespoon honey. Apply on the face and keep for 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water once the mask has dried off. Pat dry and then apply a good moisturizer.


18. Honey Citrus mask for a healthy glowing skin:

This mask is used to rid the skin of a dull effect, therefore giving it a healthy looking glow.

To make this mask, add three tablespoons of orange juice to half a cup of honey. Apply this paste on the face and keep it still for 30 minutes. After it dries off, first wash it with lukewarm water followed by cold water. Following this, apply moisturizer to the skin for best results.

19. Egg white and turmeric mask to fight bacteria from the skin:

Turmeric is known for its anti-bacterial properties and can very easily fight off germs from the skin. It is usually recommended for reducing acne and pimples. Moreover, it is an ingredient that has been in use since the ages and is very successful in producing expected results. Moreover, the egg whites work well on oily skin.

To make this mask, add one egg white to one tablespoon of orange juice. Add half a tablespoon of turmeric to this and whisk it well. Apply this mask on the face and let sit for 15 minutes. Wash with water once the mask has dried off.


20. Brown sugar mask for skin scrubbing:

Brown sugar is known to remove dead skin cells from the surface, giving way to a healthy new skin surface. Coconut oil, on the other hand, adds moisture to the skin.

To make this mask, add two tablespoons of brown sugar to two tablespoons of coconut oil, which forms a scrub. Apply this scrub in a circular motion on the face. Once it sinks deep in the skin, wash off with warm water. This mask will result in a soft skin which has a healthy glow.


21. Nutmeg mask for acne-prone skin:

This mask fights and clears off acne really well because of the mixture of two tablespoons of honey with two tablespoons of milk and two tablespoons of nutmeg. Once it sinks well into the skin for 15 minutes, wash off with water and apply moisturizer. The resultant skin will be much clear and free of acne. It also prevents any future breakouts of acne or pimples.

22. Chocolate mask to reduce quicker aging:

Dark chocolate has its own health benefits which are very well known to mankind. Apart from providing antioxidants, it also has anti-aging properties when it is applied to the skin, by producing collagen.

To make this mask, in half a cup of cocoa powder, add 1/4th cup of honey, four tablespoons of coconut cream and three tablespoons of oats. Mix well to make a creamy paste and apply on the face. Leave it for 10 minutes and wash off when dry.
